The OEUK medical is a health assessment for people who work, or plan to work, in an offshore environment. Its purpose is to establish whether a worker's health allows them to carry out their duties safely in demanding conditions and in a place where access to medical assistance may be limited.
The name OGUK is still widely used by workers and employers, but the organisation's current name is OEUK.

The medical is taken by people whose work takes place at sea or on offshore installations — both before their first trip offshore and when renewing the certificate.
The examination begins with an interview covering your health, treatment and the nature of your work. The doctor then carries out a medical assessment in line with current OEUK guidance. Additional tests or consultations may be needed depending on your health and the requirements of the role.
You select the service and an available slot in the booking system.
ID document, previous certificate, medical records and test results.
A discussion of your medical history followed by the physical examination.
The doctor decides on the scope during the appointment.
You receive the English-language certificate immediately after the examination.
From 1 November 2026, a worker weighing more than 124 kg when dressed in accordance with the applicable travel policy will not be permitted to work on UK offshore installations covered by that policy. The limit relates, among other things, to the ability to evacuate safely and to carry out rescue operations.
A transition period runs until 31 October 2026. During that time:
Body weight is assessed in clothing compliant with the applicable travel policy, including footwear. The limit excludes the survival suit, life jacket and other personal protective equipment.
The 124 kg policy applies to the UK offshore installations covered by it and is not a general limit in force on all vessels and in all countries. The policy does not cover seagoing vessels. The doctor will discuss the details of your individual situation during the examination.
The OEUK medical assesses whether your health allows you to work safely offshore. The scope is tailored individually in line with current OEUK guidance and may vary depending on your health and the nature of the work. Additional tests are not mandatory — the doctor orders them where the worker's health or the nature of the job makes it necessary.
That does not automatically mean you are unfit for offshore work. The doctor takes into account the course of the condition, how effectively it is treated and the risk of a sudden deterioration in health.
It is not automatically part of every OEUK medical. It may be required for particular roles or by your employer.
See the Chester Step TestA standard offshore fitness certificate may be issued for a period of up to 2 years.
The doctor may, however, decide on a shorter validity period where the worker's health, the need for an earlier review or current offshore safety rules require it.
After a serious illness, injury or significant change in health, a new fitness assessment may be required before your next trip offshore.
Price applicable at UniMedica Szczecin.
